Middle School Football Association

We’ve received many questions around a new association that promotes football centered around the various middle schools in the area and its impact on Pop Warner.

First, SJSA will field both Junior Midget and Midget Division teams, in Pop Warner.  Tryouts for the middle school association will be held well before the close of registration for our association.  Here are some things to consider:

  • The football offering for the middle schools is not paid for by the schools, but is in fact, a non-profit youth athletic association under the auspices of American Youth Football.  This means that each participant will pay a fee to participate which will probably not be different than the fee charged by SJSA.
  • There are no weight limits.  Participants can play at any weight and there is no consideration for disparities in size among the age group.
  • There are no minimum plays rules.  Like high school, participants compete for a roster spot and there is no guarantee that kids will be able to play.
  • Practices will be held at the school facilities right after school.
  • Rosters are limited to 40 players, so there will be cuts at some schools.

We at SJSA would not begrudge the opportunity for our kids who want to play wearing the colors of their school.  We also want to be mindful that should your kids NOT make the middle school team, that an opportunity to play football is still open to them.

Our policy will be to accept registrations from kids who do not make the middle school teams, very much in line with the policy for ninth graders who do not make a JV or Varsity team in high school.

WE WILL NOT TURN ANY ONE AWAY.

We hope this clears things up.  We will try to have representatives at each of the tryouts to assist parents and kids who do not make the middle school roster.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at:
